The Shine Centre
- Bringing literacy and language enrichment to school children with reading difficulties
Cape Town, South Africa

How can you help?
We do not receive any government funding for this project. A once off donation or a monthly donation need not go towards administrative costs. The joy of our project is that we work from within a school. This means that running costs, security, electricity, rates and rent do not exist for us as the school provides us with all the afore-mentioned.
You could choose to fund the following:
- Annual ear and eye tests, including funding towards glasses or further testing as needed.
- Bi-annual parent workshops
- Quarterly volunteer training
- Bi-annual assessments of learners, including any specialist assessments needed for a child.
- Sponsor our "volunteer packs" which has a set of literacy resources for our programme.
- Sponsor our "learner packs" which has a set of reading books.
- Buy a set of readers for our "Literacy Hour Project."
- Sponsor a child's creative story book to be published. Look at our Partners link and read about the Dancing Pencils project which our learners are part of.
- Sponsor an 'at-risk' child's specialist support lessons for a year. (See our Good News story for an accountant of how a child's life was turned around after receiving such sponsorship.) See contact details for information regarding our registration number and NPO Status.
